Yes, people. It’s true. I will be 31 on Sunday. 31 is officially being “IN” your 30’s. Honestly, I am okay with it but I’m not 100% sure what to do with it. I mean, I remember VIVIDLY when my mom was in her 30’s. I was 7/8 when she turned 31. It was also 1986.  I feel like my life should be just like “thirtysomething” from the 80’s.  Anyone remember that show? If not, you are too young or you are as old as dirt! (This also applies if you do not actively remember being shooed from the den so your parents could watch “Dallas.”)

    Exhibit A: thirtysomething

    Exhibit B: Dallas

I secretly want that big hair…

    Exhibit C: Me as a barely 31′er

HA! Just kidding. Here’s the real me:

I am comforted by the fact that 30 is the “new” 20, right?? RIGHT???? I mean, I have my WHOLE life in front of me. And, I get to wear way cooler clothes (more sophisticated and non-teeny bopper)…

On that note, I am going back out to the beach (yes, we are back at the beach!) to relax under the umbrella and my large hat as to not accentuate my thirty-something wrinkle potential!

P.S. If anyone happens to be making a homemade strawberry cake with strawberry icing, call me! That would be FAB. (Wink wink!)

    Eat Cute!

    Posted in: Gifts

My son has a depressing collection of plates, forks and spoons. In other words, he really doesn’t have any. He has a few plain red plates and a few plain green plates. He has one cute divided “Ho Ho” plate from Christmas. Woop de doo! In my defense, since moving to the river, I don’t have access to cutie Target finds on a regular basis. Nor do we have a boutique just dedicated to fun kids things (in my future??). But, I did find a few gems at a local store in White Stone called FARM. If you haven’t been there, GO NOW. They carry hip  clothing (Velvet and Ella Moss – yippee!) as well as fun gifts, jewelry, and some kids things (Emily Green below). I’m thinking of approaching them about carrying Lambchop!

Anyway, here are a few of my finds to liven Davis’ breakfast, lunch and dinner. OUT with the depressing and IN with the fun!

Spotted at FARM from Emily Green:

    Doi. My boy loves trucks.

Double doi. My boy loves planes and helicopters.

    Triple DOI. Dinosaurs!

    QUADRUPLE FREAKIN’ DOI!!

I’ll take five sets of these, please!

    The following adorbs from…yes, TARGET:

Who doesn’t love a crazy monkey??

Ahhh…after my own artist heart with this one…

    Spill proof non-sippy. Genius!

And, LOVING this hilarious plate from Land of Nod:

    (Yuk, yuk, yuk!!)

The name of this fork, also from Land of Nod, is called “Air Fork One.” Blahhh!!!! I wish I had the job of naming this stuff!!!!

Interactive Placemats from Land of Nod. Done & DONE.

I also found tons of cutie girlie plates, etc, at Girly Twirly….tell me why I cannot use their pictures? Check it out, though.

Tell me where else you’ve found exciting eating items!!

A good friend of mine, Sara, is a planner like me. She is also very organized, orderly, sensible, and likes to know what’s coming (I like to think this is also like me). Ok. I must tell you that even thought this makes her sound uptight and boring (sorry S), she is NOT!!! She is also loving, fun, CRAZY (this girl can shake it down on the dance floor among other things), silly and devoted. (Making me look uptight and boring! Hopefully, not me!) Regardless, I was shocked when she told me she is NOT (read: NOT) going to find out the sex of her baby. WHAT?!!!!!!????!!!! World stand still. I can barely handle it. How can I  have all of her baby’s gifts pre-monogrammed? How can I mentally prepare for my child’s BFF not knowing whether he or she will be a HE or SHE?

I worry: Is she destined to have a house full of yellow ducks and green frogs?

    Courtesy Google Images

Not kidding, from the Frog Store.

After I freak out and get over my initial nervousness about the situation, I contemplate this choice of not knowing.  I realize that there is GREAT freedom in not knowing. I mean, how wonderful to not think about girl/boy, pink/blue, dress/polo. It starts to really not matter to me. Obviously, first and foremost, what we all want is a healthy baby.  And, will we not love the child if it’s one versus the other? NO!! And, I admit, it’s kind of super fun to play this guessing game of hers. The odds are good – my chances of guessing correctly are 50/50. :)

So, in honor of all you “crazy-in’s” not finding out what your peanut will be until D Day…let’s celebrate your fun with a few great gender neutral options for shower gifts (friends of preggers: wink! wink!).

    From yours truly! Lambchop Designs.

So sweet, this turtle. He projects stars onto the ceiling. Lovely! From Corner Stork Baby Gifts.

    Pottery Barn Kids

    Blabla

Yes, this is made from magazine cuttings! From openhouse.

    Serena and Lily

    Binth! So super chic!

I hear you asking me, “Does this revelation of not knowing convince you to not find out in June?” My answer, “probably not.” I am pretty sure I will still find out. Oh, come on!!!

    Ha!

Yep. It’s here, ready or not! The proof: we just had four glorious days at the beach in nothing less than bikini weather. This season (my favorite), however, has kind of blind sided me this year. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been killing myself per usual in order to give my best shot at “bikini abs” and overall sculpted bikini-ness. I, therefore, naturally, opted for a more conservative tankini to cover my ever bulging preggers tummy. Well, let me tell you, it got HOT. My stomach was STEAMING from all the extra fabric. I started to think…pregnancy bikini. I must do it.

When we got home yesterday, I found a Fit Pregnancy mag in my mail box. Low and behold, there is an entire section dedicated to lovely pregnant ladies in bikinis (a few pics from the spread below). There is even a woman on the cover sporting a sassy two piece!

This little black bikini is totally my style. Yippee! (And, bonus skirt – cute and covers my ever growing you-know-what!)

    Fit Pregnancy Mag

I lounge like this on a daily basis.;)

    Fit Pregnancy Mag

I am completely convinced to let it all hang out from here on this summer. Check out the other gorgeous suits I found to fulfill my quest of tummy freedom:

    SUPER fun and not skimpy!

    Maternal America “Jeena” Bikini

Bella BumBum Bikini found at TummyStyle

I have actually tried this one on! The bottoms are NOT canoes…the usual in maternity fashions…from Prego Maternity.

Or…if you have even more of a “devil may care” attitude, skip the maternity part of the bikini completely and flaunt your stuff:

    South Moon Under

I love the detail on this suit from Trina Turk (LOVE!)

    Everything But Water.

Pregnant or not, this bathing suit shopping can be intimidating and a much dreaded sport, no? Good luck out there!

Here we are in Duck, NC:

Yes, this was taken today. Yes, I am at the beach. Yes, it is FABULOUS! We have had so much fun here with our friends this week. If I weren’t pregnant, I certainly would enjoy a nice, cold brew. Even so, a nice, cold Coke will do. (This baby tends to crave one at around 11am!)

Since we are guests of our friends, I am thinking about the night that the Buggs cook dinner for our hosts. Beach houses usually come with a limited supply of truly fabulous serving dishes and trays. So, we are working with what we have. Ideally, however, we would have some seriously sassy gear to throw a dinner in beachy style!

On that note, a good friend of mine in Annapolis recently sent me a link to Star Monograms. And, low and behold, look at these “Party Tubs” and such. (All products shown below are from Star Monograms.) Party!!!

Look at that handy handle! Perfect for post-beach on the balcony, no?

How pretty is this melamine cocktail cupcake tray? I would tie a gorgeous neck scarf around the handle for some extra sass.

Naturally, you will need this small cutting board (personalized, of course) to slice the limes that will grace your beautiful tray. I have seen these at Williams Sonoma but I love to support a local biz!

Now, put it all in your retro oil cloth beach bag for a beach party!

Let’s not forget more party tubs/coozie storage or for the kids:

I want to get one of these made for Davis and Peanut. Great for toys, puzzle pieces, juice boxes on ice…

Imagine replacing the wire bucket handle with nautical rope…WAY cool.

Order several of these and you’ll have a swingin’ party in no time. Can I come?

Alrighty, kiddies, posting all of these great party-compatible monogram options leaves me with wanting one thing…to head back out to the beach! Have a great weekend and see you Monday!

Over my trip to New Orleans last weekend, I had a very sweet surprise! My girls gave my Peanut his/her very first baby present: a green alligator piggy bank from Mignon Faget!! I couldn’t be more excited for my little one. It is the perfect gator to gobble up our stray coins.

Today we have another sweet treat. Jessie Haynes of The Gimlet Eye has offered to be a guest on Lambchop Designs! She is into a “piggy bank round up.” Read on to see my adorable alligator bank and more cool-as-a-cucumber piggy options!

    Jessie, take it away!

Well, hello there.  My name is Jessie Haynes, and I am the editor of the blog, The Gimlet Eye.  I was thrilled when Adrianne asked me to pen a guest post.  I thoroughly enjoy a good ole shopping round up…and I hope you will too!

There is not a more classic keepsake gift to bequest upon a tiny than the piggy bank.  Whether traditional or trendy or somewhere in between, there is an oinker for everyone.   Here is a compilation of my fave piggy banks among the countless showstopper options out there.  Hopefully, they will leave your girlfriend (and her baby, of course, but let’s be honest….) tickled pink.

    Now, bring on the bacon!

Although not a piggy, this Dwell elephant bank is tons of fun.

As a Nola gal, I couldn’t resist in including these keepsakes from Mignon Faget.  My personal faves are the pink bunny and green gator.

If you are a Gimleter, then you understand my undying devotion to the King of Happy Chic, Jonathan Adler.  For your happy chic baby/friend…also comes in blue for boys, of course.

For your friend who is trad with a twist.  The classic Lunt silverplate piggy, mod style.

The traditional oinker from Reed and Barton will delight.

Clearly, a showstopper swine by Roost.

He comes in the little blue box.  Nuff said.

    A sweet swine by Juliska.

I am in love with this simple giraffe bank.  It it is the perfect combination of sweet and chic.

Start his or her nest egg….it comes in a rainbow of fruit flavors!

I hope this post helps you find the perfect piglet for the new piglet.  Stop by and visit us over at Gimlet for more shopping roundups and design ideas!

    Cheers,

    JSH

Thanks so much, Jessie! See you guys soon.

Yesterday I had my 16 week appointment at the Doctor’s office. It was uneventful (good news) and exciting because at the next one…in a month…we will officially know if we are having a girl Bugg or a boy Bugg. Naturally, it made start thinking about Peanut’s birth announcement! (Naturally!)

Ahhh, if only I knew the day and time of birth…I could go ahead and have them printed, addressed, and stamped. What luxury! Again, I am sad that my psychic reading was sub-par. Surely, the stars already know! Oh well, I guess I will have to be patient and cooperate with Mother Nature!

After I came to terms with the obvious fact that I cannot control the universe (bummer), I couldn’t stop thinking about what style I may want to communicate Peanut’s arrival…so, I did some preliminary searching. Here is what I found (petite sophisticate with tons of personality)!

Two Sprouts (The names used on this sample are phenomenal! Alex Gator. Huh huh huh!!)

    Tiny Prints

I mean, look at that elephant face. Have you seen any sweeter (besides your own kids, dog, hubby, boyfriend, whatever :) )?

I adore this fresh, contemporary look from Minted.

    Check out the close-up. LOVE!

For the Buggy sort (a la moi)…Polka Dot Design.

Is it any surprise that I would love a sheep/LAMB card?? From Invitation Box.

Another great one from Tiny Prints!

And, last but not least, look at this cutie card from Kate Reed Designs. Have some vision. It’s currently a Christmas card. Think about how precious it would be as a birth announcement, though. And, the great thing is they do custom work so you may easily change the wording on the card.

(P.S. I can’t help but toot my own horn a bit…Please note their logo (Just the font and butterfly. I can’t take credit for the cool header design.)…yours truly designed that in collaboration with Kara Bell, Kate Reed Designs’ owner!)

    Ok…here’s the card:

All this talk about birth announcements make me think I should just make my own!! What do you think? What would be your favorite Lambchop Designs painting to convert to stationery/note cards? Let me know!!

    Have fun!

One of my favorite things to do when I visit New Orleans (which I did last weekend, as you know) is to walk up and down Magazine Street. I’ve already talked about the gorgeous store for home decor, Hazelnut. BUT, I didn’t tell you about Angelique Baby yet. Oh MY. This boutique is a cannot miss (especially if you a) have a child, b) have a friend with a child, c) are with child, d) know of a child…anywhere…I promise, you will buy something for that unknown child)! There were so many good things, I have decided to dedicate an entire post to my finds. So, let’s get started!

First of all, I am pregnant. I don’t need a lot of maternity clothes because this is my second child. I do need some, however…ok, want. And, when I see a sale rack where everything on it is $30…yes, I said $30…I tend to run over to it like a moth to a flame! Here is just a smidge of what I found there:

The Maternal America Band Dress in Black. I found the picture on Nordstrom.com (it accurately reflects the face I made when I tried it on, of course). Now, at Angelique Baby, the original price was $150. I’m telling you, I didn’t care if this sucker made me look like a potato sack I was going to buy it. $30! Turns out, it looks pretty great on (according to the shop ladies and my friends) and, “Brittany Brees wore that to the Saint’s Parade after they won the Super Bowl…and, she wasn’t even pregnant!). So, duh, I bought it.

Ok. This picture (also from Nordstrom) is similar to a shirt I bought. It’s the same pattern but has a slash neck, quarter-length sleeves, and the sash around the waist, not the hips. Oh well! Anyway, this was also on the $30 rack. No mistake! I asked about five times to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating…$30…Olian. Done and done.

There were also enticing dresses on the non-sale rack…which, actually, turned out to be on sale for 30% off! What LUCK I had…I must have used all my luck in Angelique and completely run out of it by the time I got to my psychic reading. (See my post from yesterday!)

    Found at Nordstrom.

    Found at Euphoria Maternity.

Angelique Baby also has a glorious collection of Tea. Have you heard of Daily Tea? Ahhh!!! Look at the following. As a friend of mine always says, “I die!”

    Daily Tea Collection.

How can you not love the mix-and-match-ness of these adorable, kimono style frocks? And, it’s the softest cotton…ever made.

Lord help me and my wallet if it’s a little girl…also Tea Collection.

Chinese Jacket from Tea Collection. I miss those fat-cheek baby days!

    And, last but not least….

Yes, all colors and combos of Tutus like this one from Etsy! Again, if it’s a girl, that chick will be wearing one of these every day.

It’s amazing I kept my spending slightly under control, non? So….have you booked your ticket to NOLA yet??

    More fun tomorrow!

Hi Everyone! Sorry I am late to post today. I got back late last night from my amazing trip to New Orleans! We had a blast! Here are the deets:

It began with a snack stop complete with vanilla freeze (old fashioned, whole milk milk shake) and the best grilled cheese you’ve had in your LIFE at Camellia Grill. It is a classic burger flip place straight out of 1950. We were served by a man named Marvin who gave me “knucks” as we sat down. His name tag said, “Word.” I mean, I had been in New Orleans for 30 minutes and already I’m meeting a character!! Here I am (terrible pic) post-snack:

Saturday we had a leisurely breakfast and ventured out to Magazine Street to Azby’s (great clothes that I cannot fit into in my maternal state!), Angelique Baby and Hazelnut. Hazelnut is co-owned by Mad Men’s Brian Batt…love him!!!

No, we didn’t see him. And, as a side note, we didn’t run into Ryan Reynolds either…drat!

We did see phenomenal home decor items such as:

This table is full of trays and coasters with old New Orleans scenes on them. I am DYING for a set! Also, look at the great photograph of the Audubon Park Fountain (right). I would love to hang that in my living room. (Hint, hint, hubs!)

We also ran into Whole Foods (most of you have one in your town…I don’t. I get WAY too excited about this place) and I fell in love with this piece of art right in front:

    The close up shot:

It’s decorated with these bottle caps. Clever!!

Now…what you’ve all been waiting for…As I mentioned on Friday, we went to the Bottom of the Cup for a psychic reading.  This was absolutely hilarious. I was eager for my fate to be told when my psychic (remaining anonymous) started getting everything wrong. HA!!! For example, I asked about children without revealing A) I already have one child, B) I am preggers with #2. He said he didn’t see any children in my future and that I am not pregnant. OOPS! Are you reading the wrong stars??? Well, so finally, after asking him if he was sure at least twice, I revealed my pregnant state. Hilarious!! I then asked him if the baby is a girl or a boy. He said he was, and I quote the exact phrase, “… feeling a girl vibe but attitude-wise, it could be a boy.” WHAT does that even MEAN?? I am still cracking up at this statement. Later on in the reading, he said he was sure it is a girl. I think I am going to rely on the scientific answer we get in June. :) I would LOVE your comments on this one. Oh, I also have to tell you that he told me I have recently had writer’s block. It was too much for me to take. I busted him again by explaining that I had recently launched this blog and couldn’t stop typing!! As my friend, Jen, said, “Adrianne =  1, Psychic = 0.” LOL!!!!

Chew on that for a while and I’ll be back tomorrow with more New Orleans fun (and more kid stuff found at a great boutique on Magazine Street!)

Anyone that knows me remotely well knows that I have spent a lot of time in New Orleans (NOLA). I lived there in my formative years during ages 18 through 25. I went to Tulane University and am still in touch (closely) with several friends from the Green Wave (WOO!). I am also helplessly obsessed with New Orleans. I PINE for it. I mean, I truly PINE for it! The song, “Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans” always appropriately describes this longing for the Big Easy. If you haven’t heard the song before, here you go:

Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans by The Preservation Hall Jazz Band

Ahhh…that’s better! Now that you have the appropriate ambiance to read this post, I’ll continue!

This song and my forever pining is on the brain because I am going to New Orleans TODAY. That’s right! I couldn’t be more excited! I am flying into MSY where one of my best friends, Jen, will pick me up and drive us to another best friend’s house (Jessie). Anyway, we have cooked up a fabulous plan for the visit: relax, catch up (read: constant talking and screaming and beating our legs laughing), eat at Martinique (deeee-lish) and have our palms/cards read. THAT, my friends, is going to be amazing, entertaining…and scarily accurate.

THE place to go. Bottom of the Cup!

I am sure we will end up moseying into Angelique Baby and Pippen Lane (two amazing children’s boutiques on Magazine). And, maybe we’ll spot a few celebs (Brangie? Ryan Reynolds? Yes, please!). Seriously, if anyone knows where RR will be, please tell me.

Ryan Reynolds filming The Green Lantern in New Orleans.

Below is primo kiddo inspiration straight from New Orleans just for you. I am sure to have LOADS more when I return. :)

Davis had this onesie when he was a tiny ‘un. It absolutely cracks me up! Find it on Etsy!

“NOLA Baby” Mardi Gras Ladder cards…clever! From Two Sprouts.

Beautiful baby blankets from NOLA’s own Mignon Faget.

One of my son’s FAVE books. Clearly, everyone eats red beans and rice on Monday’s. Come and eat it up! (And buy it on Amazon!)

Davis at 7 months old in his crawfish jammies. I bought them at Pippen Lane on Magazine Street in NOLA! He loved them, I promise. Ignore the confused look on his face!

OK. I now will admit. I am dying to find out if this kid is a boy or a girl. That’s right. I’m going to see what the stars have to say about my peanut. Surely they cannot be wrong! Davis will not take “brother” for an answer… Stay tuned for the revelation on Monday!

If you haven’t displayed multiple sticker charts for your toddler yet…get ready to have a life changing experience. My son (now two and a half years old) refused to take naps for a MONTH. This full stop was a nightmare. He didn’t even want to have “quiet time” in his room for an hour. What is a mother to do? At wit’s end, grasping at straws for ideas (read: bribes) I thought of trying a very basic tactic…the only thing that worked (and is still working months later)… a sticker chart. Not just any sticker chart, however, HIS own sticker chart. I took him to a fabric store to pick out a cute backing (see below) and then to pick out his favorite stickers of ALL time…Lightening McQueen, naturally! Read on for how to do this for your kid(s). If you have all the supplies it will take you 15 minutes tops.

You will need: spray adhesive, fabric glue, cute fabric, a bulletin board, large card stock/poster board, scissors and 1″ grosgrain ribbon. That’s all!

    How to do it:

    1. Find a nice sized bulletin board. I prefer 2×3 and found this one at Walmart for $9.99. Go to the actual store – I didn’t find the same one online.

    2. Choose your fabric and ribbon. Davis chose “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and white ribbon. (This picture is skewed a bit…not sure why!)

    From www.fabric.com

    3. Cut the fabric to fit the inside of the framed bulletin board (no need to pull the wood frame off). Allow a little extra room if you want to fold the fabric over (see step 5). Iron the fabric to eliminate creases.

    4. Spray the spray adhesive (Elmer’s is great – found at Walmart also) onto the cork part of the bulletin board.

    5. Carefully place the cut fabric onto the cork pressing firmly and smoothing as you go. (I folded the edges over to have a smooth, hemmed look!)

I also ran a line of fabric glue next to the frame to glue the hemmed edge down:

    6. Cut ribbon to fit each side of the bulletin board. Then, run a line of fabric glue along the wood frame of the board.

    7. Place ribbon on the glue on top of the wood frame and let all dry.

Voila! Cute bulletin board for your sticker chart!

Please note that this is my son’s potty training chart. It’s going well, trust me. Those stickers are for action, not trying. Ha!!

Making the sticker chart portion is easy, too. Just use markers and chart off the days of the week. When ours was complete, I started to promise Davis a very special Lightening McQueen sticker if he took a “nite nite nap”. He went to sleep. Hallelujah!  It has worked so well I have been able to transfer it to other handy uses such as killing nasty habits in an instant and potty training (see above). It’s amazing. I know.

Have another trick that worked for your babes? Let us know! I am crossing my fingers that the sticker chart works for a very long time.

Yes. It’s true. I have blackberry jam and peanut butter on my suit sleeve today. Did I change suits? Of course, NON! I am wearing it like a Mom badge of honor. (I did dab it a bit, however.)

A few of the hardest lessons for me as a mom have been:

    1) You are never going to be 100% clean even on your best days. (Lesson: Be flexible.)

    2) If you dare wear silk, gabardine, jersey cotton or any other fabric (read: clothes in general), stuff (any kind of stuff) will be smeared on it before you leave the house unless your child is spending the night somewhere…which never happens on days you dress up and have to be somewhere other than the playground or the gym. (Lesson: Be flexible.)

    3) Your hair will never be “did” perfectly ever again. (See conditions in #2) (Lesson: Be flexible.)

    4) You rarely have time to do anything about said PB&J situation before leaving. The smearing inevitably happens while exiting the house. (Lesson: Be flexible.)

    5) At some point (I say when you are a year or so into this kid deal) you start to not care and hope no one notices. (Lesson: Be flexible.)

SO, we arrive at my current mental state…I think I’ll get another cup of coffee! Ha!

Through this hilarity of a morning, I started thinking about rugs for the nursery (I know. Random thought.) as well as how I need to buy Shout Wipes for my purse.

Let’s take a look at these beautiful rugs, shall we?

I am thinking of going with pops of turquoise and orange in the nursery. OR, pops of yellow. Remember my post from yesterday? The guest room-to-be-nursery walls are already painted a sassy grayish taupe.

Okay so check out this cutie from Anthropologie:

    And from Jelly Bean:

    And,  Posh Tots:

    More Posh Tots:

Rosenberry Rooms (I am in love with this one. Sassy owls!)

Pottery Barn Kids. This one I may use in Davis’ big boy room (a MECCA for design projects).

What do you think? I suppose it will depend a bit on the bedding I end up choosing. I don’t want there to be too many focal points. You have to start with one piece for inspiration, right?!

Good luck staying peanut butter free today!

I am a bargain hunter. I love it! (Well, to a degree.) If it’s easy to find, I especially love it. I’m not the type to go digging through bins at a random warehouse to find just THE thing for two cents. Maybe I should be. You can really FIND FINDS if you do! Anyway, if you are like me and like “convenient” bargains, read on.

First of all, I am hosting a very convenient bargain on all my paintings this month. Yep! 25% off of everything. What? Let me say it again: 25% OFF EVERYTHING! If you didn’t hear about this, visit my first blog post here or you should sign up for my email updates here. Those peeps get a lot of juicy bargain info that others don’t! Anyway, you need to go to the Shop pages and buy yourself or your friend a painting or two. You can only use the discount on one order so choose carefully and order more than one to make it count. Enter “LOVENEWSITE” at checkout!

Secondly, it can be tough to choose artwork for a friend or even a close family member. Therefore, Lambchop Designs has decided to offer Gift Certificates! You can buy them in any denomination. For now, email me and I’ll send you a physical certificate to send your bestie. Let me know if you have questions!

Speaking of bargains…I have an friend who is an expert at bargain hunting. Check out this gorgeous headboard she found on Craigslist:

Check out her post here: The Gimlet Eye

I am only beginning to scratch the surface of Craigslist but I have become a believer after Jessie found this headboard. Imagine it painted a shiny, lacquer white! Depending on whether we have a girl or a boy, we’ll pipe it in yellow, kelly green, or navy. I cannot wait!!

More from Craiglist…I am considering these purchases for an end table to put in between the twin beds.

Have some vision with this…It will be painted, of course (and the glass top removed)! And, we could put some nifty new drawer pulls on it. By the way, this wooden piece is $35. $35. YES. I said $35!!

    Or this:

Again, have vision with a beautiful paint color. This one is a bit smaller and may work better with the space.

Here is the room, by the way, that will be the nursery (aw, bless its heart):

We have a long way to go, non? I will, no doubt, have A LOT more conversation with you about its potential!

Ok more tomorrow and don’t forget to subscribe to these lovely musings HERE! Also, tell me about your most recent FAB bargain!

We know that sometimes it is hard to choose artwork for someone else. And, our friends/family can be indecisive about colors for the nursery or their child’s room. How can you know what will go with their theme? What to do?? Solution = Gift Certificate!! Select a denomination below and order as many as you need. We will send you a physical certificate that the lucky gift recipient may use in picking out their very own, special Lambchop Designs product. If you have any questions, please call or email us!

Please note the name of recipient and any message below:

My mom and I celebrated a bit last week with a trip to DC. (Our birthdays are a day apart at the end of this month!) We usually see a show at the Kennedy Center, however, on this trip we decided to take it easy.  We spa-ed, we ate, we slept, we ate some more. Delightful!

One of the highlights of the trip (for me) was discovering a wonderful shop and site, Paper Source. I know, I am way behind the curve here. How have I not paid attention to this mecca of beautiful papers and quirky gifts?? I was so inspired with ideas for the baby’s room, I have to share. First of all, though, here is my lovely mom in the garden at the National Cathedral (yes, we even had time to squeeze in a historical venture and a little God):

Doesn’t it look serene? Are you relaxed now? Okay. Let’s continue on the paper topic…

I recently saw an article on DIY bookshelves. Have you ever picked up a copy of Better Homes & Gardens’ 100 Decorating Ideas Under $100?  (I would give you the link but I cannot, for the life  of me, find a link to this issue!) If not, you should. It’s genius! Well, on page 39 of the Spring 2010 issue, they present the idea of revamping a basic bookshelf. I intend to find old, wooden bookshelves and repaint them. THEN, find paper you simply adore and paste it to the back of the shelves like so:

Found on Centsational Girl and Belle Maison

Isn’t that gorgeous? What a clever trick. If the color of the shelves already suits your paper choice, all you need to do is unscrew the back of the bookcase, cut the paper to fit, and hot-glue or spray adhesive the paper to the back. Done and DONE! If you are papering built-ins (we have some in our den area that I am going to HAVE to paper), simply measure the back of each shelf space and cut the paper to match. Then, adhere to the wall/back of shelves.

Ok, so, that is the easy part. The hard part is picking from all the beautiful papers there are out there. Feast your eyes on some of the options with kid potential from Paper Source:

I am LOVING the idea of this backed on a moody grayish blue bookcase! (Or, if you are bolder, bright orange or red!)

DYING for this in a little girl’s room behind a glossy white bookcase or end table! Who has a girl? Call me. Now.

(Did I mention these are around $3.50 a sheet (20×30 size sheet). A steal!)

For a more subtle look on shiny taupe shelving…

Also beautiful on a moody blue or dark brown bookcase.

You won’t beat this lovely yellow on white bookshelves. Classic!

As you are reading this, I am searching Craigslist for old shelving with character. I’ll let you know what I find! In the meantime, check out these other quirky items from Paper Source. I surely got a chuckle out of these:

I mean, let’s be honest, right!

    AMAZING.

    Your life DOES rock, sweetie!

No matter your views…this is objectively hilarious.

Alrighty. Go pick out your paper and tell me what you find!

I don’t usually get all squishy-faced and kum-ba-ya-ish about touchy-feely topics. But, today, I am going to do just that. Why? Because it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday and your mother deserves some squishy-ness. I am a mother and I want some squishy-ness. In other words, give your mom a hug and tell her you love her, okay?

Let’s look at mom through the decades, shall we?

1950’s: Isn’t she so happy cleaning that table?

I look just like that when I clean in my perfect hair and dress. Wait. Do I sense some sarcasm in that smile?

1950’s/60’s: Now that is more like it (I Love Lucy!)

    1960’s/70’s Modern women…HOT.

    1980’s: Working Girl

My mom went to work in an office in the 80’s…did yours? And, she was the epitome of working fashion just like Melanie Griffith and Sigourney Weaver. Nicely done, Ladies.

    1980’s: Who didn’t love Ferris Beuler’s mom?

1990’s: Catherine O’Hara’s “Home Alone” mom…I look like this before I’ve had my coffee.

2000’s: Heidi Klum making it look good (and easy!).

The top five reasons, in my book, to appreciate your mom this weekend:

    1. You have thrown up on her person (or worse). You may not remember, but, I promise, you have. And, she cleaned it up without complaint AND still loves you.

    2. You gave her a hard time at least once in your childhood? Come on. Be honest. That lady is tough! Example below (not to toot my own horn but I did survive this day). This is Davis at a Chuck E. Cheese’s outing one day. He is having a blast, no? (Note my fingers gripping trying to prevent him from falling out of my lap. Good thing you can’t see my face, too! If you could, it would be screaming, “We are having SO much fun, right? Yes! Yes, we are! (sarcasm, sarcasm)”)

    3. Being a mom is a pleasure and tons of fun but it’s also a lot of work. Rewarding work. All moms are working moms.

    4. She always listened to you and gave you hugs when you needed them most. (And, hopefully, she is still around to do this for you.)

    5. Overall, you know she is Wonder Woman and you love her dearly:

    (Those hips don’t lie!)

Have a great weekend and Mother’s Day everyone! I’ll be back at it on Monday.

Today I opened my Yahoo email account to find a wonderful surprise! Hable Construction, one of my favorite fabric stores (and most fabrics only available to the trade, much to my chagrin) is offering these wonderful posters for sale. I WANT one for the nursery!! Check them out here:

    Hable Constructions Ombre Hot Cookies

Look at the fade from yellowy orange to pink to red cookies. I mean, really, how cute in a rustic wooden frame on the wall?!! And, you can’t beat the name “Ombre Hot Cookies.” Of course, these colors lend to having a girl. It could be a boy in which case, I could go with navy:

    Hable Construction Navy Cookies

As I look at these precious prints, I also think about other artwork (besides mine, of course) that would complement these cookies. Such as:

    Paule Marrot

    Paule Marrot

And how sassy is this decal from Land of Nod:

    Land of Nod Decals

I would place this on the wall behind the crib. This would also solve my ceiling fan issue…to be discussed another time (goodness!).

OH! And, this is a fan-tas-tique option for those who do not dare venture into the land of self-painted murals:

    Rosenberry Rooms

Now, I am looking at artwork not having started on any other element in the nursery. Not one. Ok well, the walls are Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter (HC 172) and that will stay the same. (It’s similar to the color behind the picture of the birch trees above.) But, we all know that the key to decorating a fabulous room is to pick one thing you love and use that as your muse for everything else. I think cookies are a great place to start, no? What will be your inspiration?

My husband will attest to the fact that I am a regular magazine junkie. It’s a bad habit, I know. But, there are so many great ideas out there! This kind of exposure is good and bad. I always say you can’t come across too many people with great notions. However, it can be a bit confusing because I like a lot of styles (read: a lot of “notions”). A LOT. For example, I LOVE a good traditional damask (feast over beautiful said damask wall below…and pretty much the entire room).

    Better Homes and Gardens

I also LOVE a sassy modern chevron stripe and lacquered table.

    Harts Fabric

Can’t you see that GLOSS?? From Room Service.

And, I LOVE antique door knobs and quirky ideas.

    Antique Doorknobs.org

I guess that is why I told a lady that helped us decorate a room in our house long ago that my style is “traditional with a twist…and it can be quite a twist.”

It’s fun to like a lot of different themes but I tend to get lost in them all. I have to make a serious effort to do what they call…um…”focus.” What’s the point of all this chatter? Well, I have found that there are several if not many unfocused among us. Sound familiar? No need to fret. Check out this fun quiz I found in Real Simple Magazine:

    Decorating Personality Quiz

Take it. Now. It’s only a few questions, people! I took it and I am, as predicted, a mix of all categories. I had three “A” answers and two of “B,” “C,” and “D.” Ha! This means I like “Sophisticated Classics” like timeless pieces and luxe fabrics.

    Real Simple Sophisticated Classic Room

Blend that with “Modern Graphic” (a la chevron stripe), “Cozy Casual” (a nice, comfy couch, please!) and “Vintage Eclectic” (older pieces with a time-worn look a la “New Orleans: Elegance and Decadence” by Richard Sexton. A MUST have for your coffee table.).

After you take the quiz, read this: “Your Decorating Style Defined.” I find this quiz and article super helpful (and pretty dead-on).

I am sharing this with you because it is a good starting point in our journey together. I am looking forward to navigating styles together and hopefully inspiring both of us to continue to find our own unique style. Clearly, mine is all over the map…I can’t help but give you all sorts of ideas!

As I write every day, I’ll be incorporating ideas from all of these styles into the upstairs of my house…a mecca for unfinished home projects. It’s also where my two-year-old dominates and my on-the-way baby will, no doubt, dominate. I want to make it fun but fit into the style of our house in general…a tough proposition, no?  I hope that you’ll find Lambchop Designs to be an integral part of your “kid” style as well.

Ok! Take that quiz and let me know what your results are!

    Hi Everyone!

There have been LOTS of changes going on at Lambchop Designs. The biggest change is my new website and blog! As you can see, you will be able to take a look at all of my paintings more easily, purchase them more easily, and get great decorating tips all at the same time. The blog will be dedicated to discussing awesome ideas for kids rooms as well as what’s going on with Lambchop. Also, you will get to hear a little about my personal life and attempt to “keep it all together” as I chase after my two-year old, run my own business, help my hubby with his law practice and run around with our dog Alice. WHEW!

    CHANGE = INSPIRATION

Speaking of changes, last summer, we picked up our bags and moved to the country. We moved to a little resort town off the Chesapeake Bay called Irvington. Haven’t heard of it or visited? You should. One reason of many: The Tides Inn (below).

I know.  Our boat (that is in NO way worthy of docking here) is in the shop RIGHT NOW with the hopes it will be up and running again in less than a month. We will be cruising to the Tides Inn for their famous Cosmopolitans in no time (yes, please)! (Ok, well, for me a giant MOCKtail. That’s right…Baby Bugg #2 is on the way! This new baby will, no doubt, lead to lots of conversation on the blog.)

We also get to take advantage of numerous farmer’s markets (read: fresh veggies and awesome, unique art, etc), knowing “that guy” who has the best crabs, and have the occasional bunny and bald eagle running around our back yard.

Why am I telling you this? Well, I want you to get to know me and Lambchop Designs on a PERSONAL level. And, my surroundings have certainly become my inspiration (our son, Davis, being primary influence!).

    WHAT’S NEXT

Lambchop Designs is in a very exciting stage. We have sort of come out of our adolescence and are emerging into a more SOPHISTICATED and FUN mode. We know who we are, what we do, and how we do it. This is all better for you! This also means new product ideas like infant and toddler t-shirts (yes, Davis will have one in each size) and, hopefully, stationery!

If you want a better grasp of my general meaning, please refer to my “guest blog” post on The Gimlet Eye:

The Gimlet Eye: Guest Blog by Lambchop Designs

My goal is to not only provide you with great artwork for your baby’s and kid’s rooms, but also give you inspiration to complete the entire room in a fashionable, fun, and affordable way. I am a big fan of DIY and clever tricks. I also can’t shake a stick at a good bargain. I promise, you won’t be disappointed if you subscribe to my musings!

Again, WELCOME to my new site. Take your time and look around. I would love to hear what you think!
